Shaji.N.Karun’s Swapaanam is a drama. The movie depicts the life of a Chenda artist taking into account all shades emotions that include love, jealousy, disturbances in family life and the general approach of the society attitudes in society towards such artistes.

Swaapnam can be termed as a patient and profound narration into the lives of an artist and his emotional torment which deals with both love and the art.

Coming from the maker of a cinematic marvel like ‘Piravi’, ‘Swapaanam’ leaves much to be desired and is a bag of mixes. You can find positives; you can find negatives too.

It’s another interpretation from director Shaji N Karun on the familiar topic of the personal life of artists. Swapaanam discusses the story of an artist whose feelings never got recognition from the world around him.

Swapaanam is nowhere near Shaji N Karun's best works, Piravi or Vaanaprastham. Even when he manages to weave the cobwebs around a chenda artist's life with panache, the story remains clichéd, with some incidents reminding about Vaanaprastham, Nadan and Bharatham.

Swapaanam is a stretched out, hypnotic narrative that progresses with a person's artistic fulfilment and emotional anguish.

'Swapaanam'- voided soul, is indeed soulful. Shaji.N.Karun once again proves that he belongs to another level as a film maker. Film is exhaustive and intense and it digs deep into the unseen trenches of mind of an artist and through it very life itself.

Shaji N Karun, well known for top class movies, is back with his latest movie Swapaanam, with Jayaram doing the lead role of a Chenda artist. The movie, like his earlier flicks, is also a slow paced one backed with some good performances and some excellent music and visuals.
